The Story

In 1935, a distinguished group of gentlemen—many serving as Captains of their own Mardi Gras organizations—set out to create an elite court and a spirited krewe of merry revelers for the city of New Orleans. This select company soon became known as a “Captain’s Club,” a reflection of the leadership backgrounds of its members. Their vision was to host a Bal Masqué and Gala that was both elegant and lively, highlighted by the formal presentation of debutantes.

According to its original charter, the Krewe of Eros was founded to foster goodwill and camaraderie among its members, to cultivate an appreciation for culture and refinement, and to promote social activities for their enjoyment. Since its inception, and in keeping with its charter, Eros has remained a small, yet steadfast organization devoted to the social traditions of New Orleans Mardi Gras and to hosting extraordinary celebrations.

Who is Eros

Eros, the God of Love, is the youngest of the gods. The son of Aphrodite and Hermes, he is armed with a bow and arrows from Zeus. Eros infiltrates and vitalizes all things: producing life, love and happiness. Eros rules the hearts of gods and men. Every carnival season, Eros presents His Royal Court to the romantic and musical themes that have become favorites of his cortage.

The Tradition

Some of the gentlemen involved in the club are descendents of the original charter members. Family traditions are deeply ingrained in the history of Eros. However, with membership on the rise many new families have been introduced to the Krewe of Eros. Because Eros has held such firm roots in Mardi Gras’ past and continues to prevail with its newly sprouted wings, the Club hails as one of the oldest non-parading carnival organizations in the city.
